Inspiration
Sophia's grandmother has been scammed over five times and the issue is that her family cannot look through every email to let her know that an email is a scam. She wants to protect her elder family members from potential scams.
What it does
This program is a chrome extension that can check emails on Gmail and output a safety score for the user explaining how unsafe the email is and what parts of the email show that it could be a potential scam.
How we built it
We collaborated together, as well as with Claude, to create this browser extension using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We used a repo on GitHub to collaborate and coded individually on VS Code.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into merging issues, as well as branch management issues among the four of us. Two of us had to completely delete our cloned local repository and redo it since a merge error occurred that we didn't know how to revert. Additionally, the original code would not output a relatively correct scoring for a very apparent phishing scam.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to accomplish a more accurate safety scoring of the emails and have an aesthetic/good usability heuristic scale for our intended stakeholders, elderly users.
What we learned
We learned how to create a Chrome extension that can interact with websites.
What's next for Team Blast
We want to eventually try to make the extension for public use.
