Inspiration
Did you know that a study by the American Journal of Public Health found that people who engaged in creative activities, such as art, were 73% less likely to experience cognitive decline in later life? Art has been a vital part of human life for centuries, but in recent times, there has been a steady decline in funding of art programs, competitions, museums, etc, which is concerning as art has a significant impact on our well-being and quality of life. Our group was heavily inspired by both our passion for art, alongside what we have witnessed in our own school. As a student in an art class, one of our members, Navya, recalls her art teachers talking about how little money is even included in the arts budget. The arts committee needs to do constant fundraisers and ask for donations to be able to provide students with proper art supplies and opportunities. Furthermore, as students who love art, we know how expensive adequate art supplies can be, and through our research, we found that teachers often have to resupply classrooms from their own pockets. There’s often hardly enough money to replace any art supplies that get damaged. If schools continue to cut down on arts budgets, classes can get cut, and the ability for students to be exposed to arts will be restricted.
What it does
Our app aims to reverse this trend by promoting the importance of art in daily life and providing a platform for artists from as young as middle school to showcase their work! The app will feature a curated selection of artwork from various genres and styles, where users can browse, purchase, commission, and even compete in local/national art competitions. Especially since art is considered such an integral part of groups and cultures, it is imperative that we contribute to maintaining a community for it. Through this app, we hope to not only support artists but also enrich people’s lives by bringing more art into homes and workplaces!
How we built it
We built our app using Figma for UI/UX and Thunkable!
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges we ran into include understanding how to transport figma into thunkable and incorporating our initial UI/UX models into our final product. We also struggled with making sure we were sticking to our plan initially but we got on track later on!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're really proud of our UI/UX! We worked hard on making a user friendly interface that is eye-catching and attractive to our audience.
What we learned
We learned that sticking to our deadlines is vital to our project because it's really hard to make up for lost time. Luckily, we were able to get back on track pretty quickly!
What's next for Team Art Class
We hope to enhance the messaging system in our forum by a lot and add more text chain features and media sharing opportunities. We also hope to grow the resources available through our app and introduce more fun games and challenges for users to explore.
