Inspiration
If Only is a web application inspired by the phrase “if only this was available here!”. It was created as one of our member's parent is currently living abroad, and often asks for Singaporean food such as sambal belacan and bak kut teh spices to be shipped over to him.
Through that, we realised that many overseas Singaporeans actually miss their homeland's delicacies and would like such foods to be available in the various countries they are located in.
Therefore, If Only was created to bridge this gap and to provide local businesses with some insights on how they can expand Singaporean products worldwide.
What it does
If Only has four main features.
Firstly, the application allows Singaporeans to post and vote for any items from other countries that they would like to be available in Singapore.
Secondly, overseas Singaporeans can post requests for any Singaporean products they’d like to be available in the country they’re living in.
Thirdly, foreigners can also post products they would like to bring into Singapore and gather votes for it.
Lastly, a centralized information feature regarding the setup of businesses in Singapore and abroad.
How we built it
The solution is a web-based application and we constructed the prototype using Figma.
Challenges we ran into
Being a relatively new concept, we had challenges on how to get started as we had difficulties visualizing the platform and had to conduct extensive research.
Moreover, time constraint was a big challenge since we only had 2 days to complete the entire slide deck and prototype.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As we mainly constructed UI wireframe prototypes for mobile applications, coming up with a web-based UI application prototype was not as intuitive. Through this experience, we are proud to have created a user-friendly web-based UI and see this product as an accomplishment itself.
What we learned
As we've done a previous module in SMU on creating a new product and going through the entire product development process, this hackathon experience really allowed us to reapply what we've learnt and deepen our understanding on product development and design thinking.
What's next for Team Anything
We hope to get shortlisted, where we can then evolve our prototype into a real functioning application and bring this solution to life!
