Team Akamai is implementing a type of next-generation "Platform-as-a-Service" (we say nPaaS) with Age Friendly focus.

Team Akamai leverages a PaaS (Twilio) to enable reliable rich messaging (SMS, MMS, Audio-Video) Alerts and Notifications in an online Portal environment for the Age Friendly Community - keeping Family and Caregivers current with a Loved one's Wellness.

Team Akamai supports Aging-in-Place and creates a "Communication Safety Net for Seniors"

Team Akamai is committed to creating VALUE: Virtual Assisted Living Umbrella for Elderly

WHY OUR PROJECT IS SUSTAINABLE 4 of the 5 Counties in Hawaii are considered 'Rural' and qualify for Federal Medicare/Medicaid Telecare Stimulus.

Team Akamai Alerts and Notifications are coupled with online socialization and off-the-shelf in-home care-monitoring.

The Team Akamai goal is to create a 'communication safety net' enabling people to live in their preferred environment - longer.

Another goal is to integrate remote care-providers/family and friends to the same 'communication safety net'. (extend the platform with many forms of wellness initiatives and remote monitoring of health indicators).

The traditional infrastructure to run such an App/Platform is complex and costly, while leveraging a PaaS allows the App and Platform to accelerate.

Demo Usernames available: demo@teamakamai.com (password: teamakamai)
hacc@teamakamai.com (password: MeetTeamAkamai) Note: password case sensitive.

Sample Scenario: Two different users (or a single person can emulate) log onto two different computers (or Devices such as Android or iPhone), the first user logs in as 'demo@teamakamai.com', and the second user logs in as 'hacc@teamakamai.com', the two users can then Message and Call each other.

Team Akamai Age Friendly Online Portal is a "Next-Generation Platform as a Service" (nPaaS), an evolution of the Application Service Provider (ASP)SaaS (Software as a Service) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) paradigms, creating Technology inclusion for seniors.

Team Akamai provides secure rich communications (voice, video, and SMS messaging) through a WebRTC HTML5 core system built using the Twilio Platform-as-a-Service to rapidly assemble a cost-effective pay-as-you-go Cloud infrastructure.

Twilio (Platform-as-a-Service) PaaS is a proven technology in use by over 1 million developers. Twilio enables dynamic two way audio and video calls and send and receive text messages Team Akamai is built using best of breed tools including: Laravel PHP Framework

Team Akamai is secure, easy and reliable.

  • WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communications)
  • JavaScript (angular.js, node.js)
  • Socket.io (User Presence management)
  • MaterializeCSS (Responsive mobile first User Interface)
  • Twilio (PaaS for Messaging infrastructure, for NAT/STUN/TURN network traversal)
  • Deployed on Standard Web stack (Linux, MySQL, Nginx, PHP)
  • Protected using SSL(TLS) with Secure Hash Algorithm 2 (SHA-2).
  • The application is developed Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) Compliant, HIPAA Security Compliant, and is Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS 140) 'ready'.

Team Akamai Directory Integration: The Team Akamai platform easily connects to any Enterprise Directory service including an LDAP Service, Active Directory, and GoogleApps, enabling users to authenticate with their familiar credentials, allowing Administrators the flexibility to manage privileges through Access Control List (ACL) Groups.

LONG TERM OUTLOOK AND POTENTIAL https://www.medicaid.gov MEDICARE AND MEDICAID Reimbursement for Telecare Telemedicine and Telecare is viewed as a cost-effective alternative to the more traditional face-to-face way of providing medical care and health wellness services (e.g., face-to-face consultations or examinations between provider and patient).

There is Medicare Stimulus available to promote Telecare.

** States may select from a variety of HCPCS codes (T1014 and Q3014), CPT codes and modifiers (GT, U1-UD) in order to identify, track and reimburse for telemedicine services.**
