Team 8: uGrow

Inspiration

Sometimes, life can be too much to keep up with. Whether it be school, work, or other activities we often forget to take care of ourselves and follow up on the goals we set for ourselves. This is what uGrow aims to solve.

What it does

uGrow is a LED plant companion that aims to assist users in goal setting and management by allowing them to care for the plant, which intakes users’ personal progress rather than water and sunshine. The uGrow is composed of two parts–a sleek LED plant model and an accompanying app.

How we built it

We designed our uGrow prototype with Solidworks 3D CAD software. To create the functions of our plant, we used html, C++, Javascript, and Arduino IDE.

Challenges we ran into

At first, we wanted to have a moving platform in our plant, but we realized that due to power and budget constraints, that aspect wasn't feasible, so we pivoted to an LED screen.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a team, we are so proud of the fact that we were able to make a functioning and aesthetically pleasing product. So many different factors played into the creation of our final prototype, and the fact that we were able to collaborate as a team to make it perform smoothly and look professional is one of our biggest accomplishments.

What we learned

Throughout the entire process of designing, prototyping, and creating our final product, we learned to be open minded and work together for the best solutions.
