Team 07 - Terra

Terra is a smart composter that integrates simple, day-to-day sustainability efforts with rich compost to enliven at-home plants. Users can drop their food waste into Terra, which will turn it into compost quickly and automatically by maintaining the ideal environment through moisture, light, and temperature sensors. Terra then notifies users when the compost is ready, and users can shovel it above to nourish their plants. Compared to traditional outdoor composting, Terra composts faster, produces less odor, is low maintenance, and has a small, chic design. Terra targets plant owners; aspiring plant owners who find gardening too difficult and/or lack backyards for large-scale gardening; individuals looking to decorate their homes and/or engage in DIY projects; at-home cooks looking to reduce food waste; and environmentally-conscious people eager to reduce their carbon footprint. Unlike existing electronic composters that typically cost over $350 and hydroponic growing systems that focus on using LEDs to aid in photosynthesis, Terra provides a compact, low-cost, easy way for users to pioneer sustainability, raise healthy plants, and maximize their plant’s growth.
