Inspiration

The last chapter of the Bible is called Revelation 22: The Reconstruction of Eden. Taking inspiration from medieval cults like the Rosicrucians, we created our own Nottingham-based cult. In our story, Revelation 23 is the secret final chapter of the Bible, describing the destruction of evil. After discovering a mysterious newspaper ad asking for help infiltrating the cult’s private chatroom, you—our intrepid player—dive into the dark web to uncover the secrets of REVELATION 23. Our game is inspired by other web-based interactive stories, blending mystery, exploration, and puzzle-solving in a unique online adventure.

What it does

REVELATION 23 is an interactive web game combining story sections with engaging challenges. Players navigate through narrative-driven quests, solve puzzles, and unravel the secrets of the cult—all while experiencing a dark, immersive web game environment.

How we built it

We built REVELATION 23 using Next.js, React, and Tailwind CSS. These tools allowed us to create a responsive, interactive, and visually distinct experience entirely on the web.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into some… let’s call them “creative obstacles”: Trying to build a castle entirely in CSS (spoiler: it’s harder than it looks), integrating story sections and interactive challenges without breaking the whole game and convincing ChatGPT to spell check a newspaper urging people to do illegal activities (we have definitely been put on some lists).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Completing our first full web game. Learning and implementing a new tech stack. Collaborating effectively as a team under hackathon pressure.

What we learned

How to work as a team under time constraints. How to apply new technologies in a real project. The process of building a game from scratch, from idea to interactive experience.

What's next for TEAM 61 – REVELATION 23

Improve the game with new challenges and story expansions. Explore future projects and create more immersive web games. Add more repercussions to the challenges to make the user more frightful to make mistakes.
