Inspiration

The ship recycling industry still relies on outdated and manual methods for waste classification and compliance reporting, which often lead to inefficiencies, errors, and environmental risks. Our team wanted to explore how AI and optimization could modernize this process by automating documentation review and helping regulators and recycling facilities make faster, more accurate, and sustainable decisions.

What it does

CleanHarbor is an AI-driven platform designed to streamline ship waste classification and disposal. It uses OCR and NLP to extract information from ship documents and automatically map materials to standardized EU waste codes. The system then recommends optimal disposal facilities based on compliance, cost, and environmental criteria. We’re currently building the core backend and NLP components while designing the frontend dashboard that will let users visualize the classification and routing outputs in a clear, auditable way.
