Inspiration

We wanted to tackle the growing issue of misinformation online and empower users to critically evaluate the content they encounter while browsing.

What it does

The AI Fact Checker is a Chrome extension that highlights potentially misleading claims on web pages and provides AI-generated insights into their credibility, using GPT-4 and Google Fact Check Tools.

How we built it

We integrated OpenAI's GPT-4 API with the Google Fact Check Tools API to scan content, analyze text for potential misinformation, and display flagged claims with confidence scores and detailed explanations.

Challenges we ran into

We faced time constraints and couldn't find an ideal fact-checking API with fully verified sources. This limited our ability to ensure complete accuracy, but we laid the foundation for future improvements.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite the challenges, we created a user-friendly interface, allowing users to easily identify flagged claims and understand the fact-checking results, whether through manual or real-time scans.

What we learned

We learned a lot about integrating AI with fact-checking tools and refining user interfaces for seamless interaction, balancing functionality and simplicity for an intuitive user experience.

What's next for Team 54 & AI Fact Checker

We plan to expand our fact-checking capabilities by integrating more accurate APIs, refine the accuracy of our analysis, and enhance the extension’s functionality for a broader user base.
