Inspiration
Hideout is a website designed to match subletters with sublessees to find apartments that work for their specific dates and budget on Penn’s campus. Our main features will include Penn authentication, apartment reviews, and a list of the features of the apartment such as pets, accessibility, and laundry services. Our objective is to create a safe and secure platform for Penn students to search for apartments. We found that a problem for many Penn students is finding short term subleases or finding fellow students to sublease their apartments. Currently, students must go through many informal channels (such as Class Facebook groups and mutual friends) to try to establish a sublease agreement. As students who have unsuccessfully tried to find subleases in the past, we were motivated to develop a solution to this problem. People should be interested in solving this problem because it affects a large number of students every year, and this is likely to remain consistent for years to come. College students will continue to leave for the summer to complete internships, study abroad during the semester, and engage in other activities which make it necessary for them to find cheap, short term housing.
