Inspiration

We want to provide a world class experience in all that we do for Ameren co-workers, suppliers and customers.

What it does

It embeds design thinking into Ameren Culture by creating a design thinking center of excellence and embedding human centric design into all that we do.

How We built it

We conducted a design thinking session to identify pain points in the journey of a project team member across a project lifecycle. During this process the team determined that during the plan, design and build phases there were serious concerns about the whether the design of a project was going to meet customer needs and if we are doing the right thing. We then conducted an ideation session to determine solutions that would address these concerns. We came up with several ideas which were group into the concept of demand management and design thinking/journey mapping. We then went through a ranking process to select design thinking & journey mapping as our focus area. We utilized open source design thinking and journey mapping materials from Standford D.School and Oracle as foundation to embed design thinking into the organization.

Culture is the elephant in the room. The culture that allowed us to be successful in the past won't support where we need to go in the future. While we may acknowledge the culture gap, we need to engage in an open and honest dialog about how we must change to develop the culture we need. I hope this project idea provides an opening to have that dialog more openly.

I was fortunate enough to be picked up by this team as I was a "free-agent". I was welcomed with open arms, and we all immediately zeroed in on one of the most uncomfortable topics... company culture. Of all the dragons we chose to slay, we picked one of the most difficult.
