Inspiration
Problem Statement: In an increasingly globalized world, professionals need education on how to do business in other cultures.
We wanted to make expanding business and creating specialized ventures more accessible in an increasingly globalized economy. We were inspired by a desire to disseminate cross-cultural skills, which we’ve grown to appreciate the importance of during our time at college. Our name, oXmosis, refers to osmosis, or the exchange of ideas and knowledge, as well as Oxford College of Emory University, where 3 out of 4 of us met and conceptualized the need for this product.
What it does
Our product, oXmosis, links professionals who have worked in multinational settings with businesspeople looking to move into various business sectors in various countries. We offer live and pre-recorded courses from these instructors, and the businesspeople can book consultations with them as well, to discuss the general climate of the environment they’re looking towards as well as specialized advice for their venture specifically.
How I built it
We built the prototype for this platform in Adobe XD.
Challenges I ran into
We faced challenges first during the ideation process. We needed to hone in on a specific target market and figure out which business model we would use.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We created a niche product that tackles an unsolved problem with a huge profit and growth potential. Cross cultural education is projected to grow 7% each year and there are already millions of people working in cross-cultural teams, yet there are few platforms educating businesspeople about how to conduct business in cultures.
What I learned
We definitely learned how to hone in on an idea and make sure we’re not trying to tackle too many issues at once. Additionally, we gained more experience thinking about logistics, finances, marketing and design even beyond ideation, which have strengthened our skillsets even beyond HackATL.
What's next for Team 30 oXmosis
To make this project a reality, we will first build out the project using code by implementing scheduling, chat, and video-hosting features. Then, we will market to potential instructors, ideally with the help of monetary capital, to begin to offer resources on our platform. After a secure database of instructors, we hope to begin to look for customers, by advertising free courses for a limited time and the value of our product through social media and advertisements.
