In the EU, far-right political parties view immigrants as a burden - i.e they commit crimes, steal jobs, and need to be saved. This leads to ineffective policy that both does not adequately prevent immigrants from coming in, and also bleeds money along the way. However, the truth about immigration is that immigrants bring unique benefits to the host countries they migrate to. Therefore, there is a mismatch between current EU immigration policy and the economic benefits of immigration, which gives an opportunity for proactive policy to generate return on investment and revitalize stagnant economic regions. The policy solution we suggest has two main recommendations. The first is to redirect money to investments that will generate ROI and achieve the EU's goal of keeping immigrants away. The second is the redirect existing migrants within the EU to economically stagnant regions to revitalize those economies. Neither policy recommendation requires an increase in the total number of immigrants or open-borders. We believe these policy recommendations centered around the idea of maximizing immigrant's benefits is a better way to handle the EU's immigration crisis.
