Inspiration
Our team has chosen to address the third problem statement related to helping aspiring techies determine their career paths in the technological industry and raise awareness of the available jobs. As we are aspiring techies ourselves, we understand the concern about the fourth industrial revolution bringing about many possibilities in this everchanging sector, overwhelming an aspiring techie on which area of the industry to focus on. Obtaining information about the various career paths one can choose is daunting due to the vast possibilities. We got the inspiration for creating a game in Telegram from the “werewolf moderator” where techies are able to interact with the chatbot by answering a series of questions related to the job chosen.
What it does
We have used an emerging instant messaging app, Telegram as our proposed solution. For a start, our solution comprises two parts - a game and a quiz. We have coded a telegram bot which allows techies to experience a day in the life of a professional in the different technology jobs through a simulation game. The bot also helps to determine the most suitable career path in the technology industry for techies by answering a series of questions through the career quiz.
How we built it
We used telegram API and python to build the bot. To make the bot available 24/7 on telegram, we run the code on the azure cloud.
Challenges we ran into
A challenge we ran into was the lack of information we had about the job options as well as the qualities required for the specific sectors while creating the quiz and game. As undergraduates, we ourselves do not have experience in this evolving industry and researching this was a challenge due to the lack of corroboration.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Accomplishments that we are proud of are firstly being able to come up with a solution that we all agree on and find valuable. Secondly, creating the bot successfully in such a short period of time, working on our codes and applying our knowledge is something our team is proud of achieving.
What we learned
We learnt how to implement a telegram bot using botfather and various functions of telegram API. We also learnt how to connect the API to python code. We have also become more well-versed about the tech industry which would help us in the future as we are aspiring future techies as well!
What's next for Team 27
We hope to improve our app such that we can achieve more goals and focus on solving the root problem of helping aspiring techies prepare themselves to step into the tech industry. A possible enhancement to this solution would be increasing the interaction by allowing the techies to communicate their specific queries about the job. We can allow the freshies to advertise themselves and clinch the aspired jobs by providing them with links and contacts that would let them reach out to companies or build skills that are required for their aspired jobs.
