Inspiration
We just wanted to make a coding language that's more verbal and 'readable' by anyone. But we ended up just having a fun with the concept. We made something more fit for torture than actually making good programs.
What it does
The program gets a .txt file as input. Outputs C code into a .C file
How we built it
Text editor and Linux kernel
Challenges we ran into
1- the English language's lack of logical sense made syllable detection for the Haiku quite difficult 2- lost about 3 hours of work when we got booted off a server and couldn't regain access to program file so had to go to older version.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
-We have a Haiku scanner that works in most cases which considering English doesn't make any logical sense is quite good -We have a working converter for turning Roman Numerals into numbers which works most the time -We have made a program that can take a text file of mostly gibberish ideas and turn it into a C file you can actually compile and run correctly so long as you follow the draconian and nonsense rules of the language.
What we learned
1- That its nearly impossible to make a Haiku scanner following only spelling 2- That making a programing language is very difficult 3- That we aren't too familiar with C ( 4 months of experience of C between us) 4- That Hackathons are quite tiring but also fun 5- That 25 hours feels like a long time until you have only an hour or so left 6- that we need to co-ordinate better on features as we spent a lot of time both working on the same issue when we didn't need to.
What's next for Team 24: Ye Olde C
-I've heard the CIA are looking for new torture methods so we might just send the project to them but in a serious note we quite enjoyed the process of making it and may go to other Hackathons in the future.
