Inspiration
As the IT Industry grows exponentially in the 21st century, the process of matching prospectives to careers that challenge, inspire, and build their passion has become an unexpectedly convoluted process. With multitudes of job postings available at the tips of their fingers, most people are faced with mind-numbing sessions of scrolling, with no apparent light at the end of the tunnel. As we observed this worrying trend when applying for internships and such, we decided to innovate a solution, one which would withstand both the growing IT Industry and the steady influx of job-hunting prospectives.
What it does
Synergia is an innovative job-hunting application, which uses a 12-node network to match Users with Jobs that match them to a t. Employers have the unique ability to chat one-on-one with prospective hires, through Synergia, cultivating an atmosphere of open communication between companies and prospectives.
How we built it
In order to create an application that stands out from the plethora of its ilk, we had to draw inspiration from applications that seemed to have everlasting life over the past decade. One of the first ones to come to mind was none other than Tinder, the social networking application. From our initial research, we concluded that the intuitive and seamless interface was clearly one of the main reasons for Tinder's longevity. Therefore, we began to brainstorm ideas on how we can incorporate such an interface into a professional climate.
We started by designing an interface that was seamless and intuitive to users and could be mobile-compatible in the future. We realised that we were able to condense walls of text into succinct boxes, which could then be swiped left or right, to reflect no interest, and an application, respectively.
Keeping employers in mind, we decided to construct a unique interface for them. Employers could use a unique "Job-ID" to log in to Synergia, and could then see all the users who have applied for the respective job. We felt that this method of authentication would reduce unwanted clutter for employers, allowing them to work more efficiently.
Challenges we ran into
We faced issues with putting our 12-node network system into production, namely transferring the data such that future job postings seen by a specific user would be tailored to their profile and preferences. Additionally, optimising the aforementioned algorithm was a challenge as well, since it necessitated numerous test-runs of Synergia, with different variables at play during each one.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are extremely proud of the effort that we have put into Synergia, and the dedication that we had towards developing the best version of Synergia possible within the given 48-hour timeline.
What we learned
We coded the front-end of Synergia using ReactJS. Most of us were relatively new to the language, and it took us close to 24 hours to be able to learn enough of the language to be able to use it during development. Delegating the work and ensuring that each of us were wholly responsible for certain parts of Synergia helped us understand the value of working together as a team of programmers, allowing us to prepare for our roles in the workforce.
What's next for Team 21_Synergia
We currently have some features lacking in the application and would like to further make improvements to it, given the time and space to do so.
