Inspiration

Sundials are both functional and attractive timekeeping devices, but need to be custom made based on the latitude where it is to be used to be fully accurate. Due to this, many people only view sundials as inaccurate gimmicks. To fight this, we wanted to make a self-calibrating sundial, S, that would be accurate no matter the location, for use anywhere in the world.

What it does

Upon activation, S takes baseline measurements from each of its photoresistors. Then, using a servo, it tilts the gnomon (shadow-caster) to the correct angle, based on its latitude, and calculates the times at which each photoresistor would be shadowed. Then, it continually measures the time based on which photoresistor is shadowed and displays it on a Blynk mobile dashboard.
