One of the most challenging aspects of composing music is the creative process of developing a melody. Finding the right melody is often difficult and it is primarily the first step that is made when creating a new song. Ripple Music is a software application that attempts to make this first step of melody creation more accessible to composers. We have made it such that an original melody can be generated by a computer with the press of a button. Users can change basic inputs such as chord progressions, tempo, key, and metre in order to find a melody that best fits their musical style. With MIDI compatibility, composers can even play these new melodies through their keyboards, giving them the ability to play along with harmonies and accompaniments. Ripple Music makes composing more approachable for amateur composers and it can help alleviate writer’s block or just simplify the process for those who are more experienced.
