Our project, the Siren was inspired by the concept of changing and returning trends. Using influences from historical fashions, such as corsets, bustles, and hoop skirts, vintage Balenciaga and Dior-esque silhouettes, and futuristic technology, we created a wearable work of art. Initially appearing as a beautiful dress, the Siren lures the eye towards her "tail" drawing the viewer in with shimmering lights that enhance the bold silhouette. Our design aims to push the boundaries of fashion and create newer, bolder styles. The base pattern for this garment was created using CLO3D, with LED strips coded through Arduino attached to the hoop skirt and jewelry resembling vintage lacework was designed using Cura and 3D printed for this project. We used Procreate for sketching an illustrating our project into life.
Our greatest challenges turned into our greatest accomplishments as we learned how to code and 3D print from the ground up for this project. Every step of our journey started at the bottom of a mountain we had to climb in order to reach the top, and we are proud to say we conquered every one.
Team 14 consists of two Senior Fashion Design students from Kent State University, we both graduate this May and are looking forward to continuing to try new and exciting things as we enter the fashion industry.
