Feeding behavior of neonates is a reflex that consists of suck and swallow while breathing. NeoNur, a previous senior design invention, tracks the sucking pressure of an infant who is feeding over time. The goal of this project is to explore the feeding characteristics of three groups of neonates using digital signal processing and data anaylsis to develop a classification model to distinguish between the different groups. The groups being healthy full-term babies, premature babies ready to be released from NICU, and babies born from mothers taking opioids during their gestation period. The classification along with the NeoNur device will hopefully be used as a tool to help medical professionals track the health of infants ensuring adequate nourishment for proper growth and maturity.
