Team 03 - Forget Me Not

Forget Me Not is a social garden where users can remotely water their friends’ plants to feel each other’s presence beyond an ordinary text message, nurturing long distance relationships from thousands of miles away.

Inspiration

Many long-distance couples struggle to communicate properly, with 16.8% of long-distance relationships citing communication as their main struggle. Additionally, this specific group expressed that they used text, voice calls, and video calls as their main method of communication. These specific stats illustrate the need for a new way to connect and enhance long-distance relationships. To this end, we created Forget Me Not, which provides a way for people to connect and foster relationships from a distance.

How it works

With a simple click, you can turn on the sprinkler and light of your friend’s physical Forget Me Not plant pot, letting them know you're thinking of them. On the companion app, you can connect to your social garden and watch as your physical and virtual plants get watered throughout the day, serving as a daily reminder of your friends, lovers, and family.

Upon purchase, you will receive a pack of seeds, a plant pot, a soil pack, and a water cup. After the plant pot then syncs with the virtual plant in the app, you can invite all your friends, relatives, and family into a shared online social garden, where you can interact by tapping on the plant icons and triggering their watering systems. By measuring the soil humidity, the pot will signal members of the social garden through an app notification that users should water the plant until the plant reaches 100% moisture. Because plants require daily watering, you are also engaged in more consistent interactions with your loved ones, which is essential for creating positive long-distance relationships and friendships alike.

What's next

Although our time at M&TSI has come to an end, Forget Me Not's journey has just begun. In the future, we will work to incorporate more features to remotely care for your loved ones' plants, such as allowing you to speak and sing through an installed speaker on the plant pot.
