Inspiration
Teachers spend a significant amount of time creating assessments, managing students, distributing exams, grading submissions, and analyzing learning outcomes. While AI can generate questions, most existing solutions address only a small part of the assessment lifecycle.
TeacherAssessment was created to provide educational institutions with a complete AI-powered assessment platform that combines assessment creation, classroom management, automated grading, and learning analytics in a single solution.
What it does
TeacherAssessment is an AI-powered assessment platform that manages the complete assessment lifecycle for educational institutions.
Key features include:
AI-powered assessment generation from prompts and uploaded documents. Manual assessment creation and editing. Multi-tenant institution management. Role-based access control. Classroom and student management. Email invitations with secure access. Configurable assessments (time limits, multiple attempts, answer keys). Automatic grading. Assessment analytics and performance tracking. PDF answer key generation. Excel export of assessment results. SQL Studio (In Development): Create, manage, and execute reusable SQL queries to generate custom reports directly from the platform. How we built it
TeacherAssessment was built from the ground up using Python, Flask, PostgreSQL, Bootstrap, JavaScript, and the OpenAI API following a secure multi-tenant SaaS architecture.
GPT-5.6 and OpenAI Codex served as AI engineering assistants throughout development, accelerating software architecture discussions, feature design, debugging, database optimization, UI refinement, and rapid iteration. All product decisions, business logic, system architecture, and final implementations remained under full developer control.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was designing a secure multi-tenant architecture that completely isolates institutions while supporting multiple user roles and centralized platform administration.
Another major challenge was building a flexible assessment workflow that seamlessly combines AI-generated content, manual editing, participant management, automated grading, analytics, and reporting without sacrificing usability.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
TeacherAssessment evolved into a production-ready SaaS platform for educational institutions rather than a simple AI demonstration.
The platform combines Artificial Intelligence, secure multi-tenant architecture, institution management, classroom administration, automated grading, analytics, and reporting into a single integrated solution designed for real educational environments.
What we learned
This project reinforced that AI delivers the greatest value when combined with solid software engineering practices. GPT-5.6 and OpenAI Codex significantly accelerated development, but building a reliable platform still required careful architecture, iterative testing, debugging, performance optimization, and continuous refinement.
What's next for TeacherAssessment
Future development will focus on completing SQL Studio for advanced custom reporting, expanding question banks, configurable grading strategies, interactive analytics dashboards, AI-powered learning recommendations, adaptive assessments, and deeper Learning Management System (LMS) integrations while continuing to evolve TeacherAssessment into a comprehensive educational platform for institutions of all sizes.
