Inspiration

To put my leisure time to use, I started tutoring a middle school student and quickly realized that teaching is tougher than it is made out to be. Teaching is a noble profession - it is the greatest act of optimism. Educators deserve assistance in their work so that they may enhance their methods of teaching and reduce their high workload. This was the inspiration behind creating the Teacher's com-plan-ion. It is an AI assistant to augment the teacher's skillset and suggest interactive and engaging activities to help students learn the specified key concepts.

What it does

The Teacher's Complanion takes 2 inputs, the students' development level (age or grade) and the key concepts for the lesson plans. On that basis, it provides 3 activities that can be used to teach the key concepts in an interactive way, while listing out the learning outcomes. It also provides an estimate of time required to complete said activities. Finally, there is a chatbot which addresses the teachers' queries about dealing with specific student needs to cater to each student. This promotes inclusivity in the classroom as every learner is unique.

How we built it

The opportunity presented itself and we seized it. We used the partyrock AWS AI app builder.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We have only published the prototype with PartyRock. This is the first accomplishment of bringing the idea into a real world application. Building a full-fledged teacher's assistant is the ultimate goal.

What we learned

Feedback from a few of our users led us to make a few tweaks to the original application. We learned that our app needs lots of user testing and feedback for further development.

What's next for Teacher's Com-plan-ion

An android and desktop teacher's assistant for lesson planning, grading as well as promoting inclusivity in the classroom. Teacher's complanion should alleviate most of the administrative responsibilities, leaving teachers to focus on facilitating the students better.
