Inspiration

Students are depending on AI to complete their homework without ever looking at it. This gets them the grades they want easily, but they aren't actually learning or retaining anything.

What it does

It allows teachers to create short quizzes on topics that have already been taught in class to see where students need refreshers. It also generates a weekly digest for parents to see what material is being taught in class.

How we built it

The backend was created with Python, FastAPI, and SQLAlchemy on a SQLite database. The frontend is React with React Router served by Vite. The backend is split into multiple parts: the databases, routes, and services. The site holds three types of users: teachers, students, and parents.

Challenges we ran into

We couldn't find time to discuss prompt ideas, which put us behind other teams. It was also difficult trying to keep the number of functions of the website low in order to create a finished product within the time limit.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating a working application that allows teachers to take control of the class and connect with their students by being able to immediately notice the material that students are forgotten/struggling with.

What we learned

How to create an application as a team, splitting up the workload so that everyone can contribute a portion of the entire application.

What's next for Teacher Retrieval Planner

Creation of flashcards and other at-home study material to keep parents in the loop and allow students to take time to refresh themselves on the material without doing assigned homework.
