Inspiration
I wanted to keep it familiar but do something I haven't seen. I thought a juice bar could be unique but even if you've never been to one you understand how it works. Honestly I just built what I thought could win.
What it does
You can grow vegetables and fruit in a garden and sell them individually or combine them to make drinks. The customers already know what they want before they enter and if you don't get it for them quickly they leave. Different items have different costs and times to grow. Different items and juices get different prices from customers.
How we built it
I copied and pasted every word from the contest rules including the template and anything else that could give it context. Then I added a file called AGENTS.md so that my IDE knew this was for a contest. For coding I strictly used Devin IDE and set it to use Claude Sonnet 4.5 Thinking. It was awesome. A few times when I wasn't sure about some creative decisions I would put screenshots into Gemini Pro and ask it to give me prompts for Devin.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge was wondering if I was doing well. It was so fun to build but I wanted to win the contest and really had no idea what the competition was like. There are some geniuses and artists out there.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Mostly just the fact that I was able to have fun the whole time. I really want to transition my career into a programmer and it made me feel like that is a good decision.
What I learned
The biggest lesson was how useful the LLMs could be. Giving it so much context and essentially building a system for Devin to use made it seem so natural. I did not touch one line of code.
What's next for Teacher Danny's Juice Bar
Regardless of the results of the contest I will upgrade The Juice Bar visually and just come up with more items to grow and sell. I really like the gameplay, I think I will just make more of the same.
