Inspiration
We really wanted to know how well we were doing in a course without forcing others to tell us their marks, and we wanted to remove toxic gossip of marks in general.
What it does
As students, we realized that knowing how well you are doing in a course cannot be gauged just by looking at a mark, but by comparing your mark to an average or median. However, we also realized that gathering data by word of mouth was not necessarily the best way to calculate statistics as people can exaggerate their marks. It is also not anonymous, meaning many people may not want to share their marks. Because of these problems, we decided to create an anonymous system of gathering marks from students automatically through the existing TeachAssist service.
How we built it
Using django as back and front end, with the help of html, css and js to build the frontend. Chart js was used to display the charts.
Challenges we ran into
Database and css formatting issues.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Used chart.js, made an extension, and was able to use django.
What we learned
That css is very annoying and we should know how inheritance works.
What's next for Teach Assist Assist
Improving the UI and sanitizing database queries.
