Inspiration

My inspiration for this website came from a club I am president of at my school. I am president of HOPE (Helping Other People Eat) Club, and I feel that people aren't always aware of how big of a problem food insecurity is, or they're not sure how to get involved and help.

What it does

My website uses statistics to show how food insecurity is a problem and gives the user resources to help combat food insecurity.

How I built it

I built my website through Replit with HTML, CSS, and Javascript.

Challenges I ran into

I ran into a lot of challenges with center aligning items. I also had some issues with the Javascript of the website and making sure things only pop up when they are clicked on.

Accomplishments that I am proud of

I am proud of building this website! This is the first hackathon I have submited a project to, so I am very proud that I took the first step and built a website that taught me a lot and can be used by others.

What I learned

One of the main things I learned is how to open new search windows. One feature of my website allows the user to enter their zipcode, then opens a google search for foodbanks near them. I was not sure how to do this at first, but I was able to figure it out after some tutorials and trial and error!

What's next for The Food Insecurity Project

I would like to tie this in with my club at my school and add more pages. I want to add an about page and a contact page. I would also like to add a page that goes more in detail about food insecurity.
