Chef Green Project Story by Thomas and Ashlen
Inspiration
The inspiration behind Chef Green was to create a culinary assistant that not only provides personalized and delightful recipes but also promotes sustainability. With the growing importance of eco-friendly practices in everyday life, we wanted to blend culinary expertise with environmental consciousness, offering users a unique and beneficial experience.
What it does
Chef Green is an avatar-style culinary assistant that offers personalized, sustainable recipes tailored to users' dietary preferences and favorite cuisines. It provides detailed instructions and eco-friendly tips, making cooking an enjoyable and environmentally responsible activity.
How we built it
We, Thomas and Ashlen, built Chef Green using the Open AI GPT 4 vision from Azure OpenAI to generate personalized recipes and cooking instructions. We also integrated sustainable practices into the suggestions, ensuring that every recipe promotes eco-friendly choices in the form of custom instructions. This was developed on a website hosted using Django. There were prompts that use the camera, text input and voice input which is analyzed using the Azure Speech Service.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge was getting each functioning part to integrate with each other, chat component, image functionality and then a voice over component for Chef Green. One of the challenges we faced was experimenting with token sizes in our LLM to ensure the responses were concise yet informative. Balancing the level of detail in the instructions while maintaining a friendly and engaging tone was also a significant challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are incredibly proud of launching our first web application using the OpenAi GPT 4 vision model. Chef Green not only provides valuable culinary assistance but also raises awareness about sustainable cooking practices. Getting each working part to integrate with each other with was a major milestone.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned a great deal about working with OpenAi API models/ Azure Cosmos DB functionality. We also deepened our understanding of sustainable practices in the culinary world, which was both enlightening and rewarding.
What's next for Chef Green
The next steps for Chef Green include expanding our recipe database to include more diverse cuisines and dietary options. We also plan to enhance the user interface to make it even more intuitive and engaging. Additionally, we aim to integrate more advanced sustainability tips and features to further promote eco-friendly cooking practices. The future is having a virtual cooking assistant helping you to cook good and sustainable meals in real-time with video.
