Inspiration
Slack keeps teams connected, but communication becomes less predictable when someone is in back-to-back meetings. A sender may not know when the recipient will be available, whether their message will be seen in time, or whether they should interrupt them. Meanwhile, the recipient often returns to a crowded inbox with little indication of what needs attention first.
Meeting Monkey was inspired by this gap between sending a message and being ready to respond. We wanted to create a lightweight Slack experience that respects focus time while giving both sides more clarity.
What it does
Meeting Monkey supports both the sender and the receiver when a message is sent during a meeting.
For the sender, Meeting Monkey detects that the recipient is busy and shows when they are expected to be available again. The sender can then:
Mark the message as urgent or able to wait Choose to be reminded when the recipient is free Set clearer expectations without checking the recipient’s calendar or sending repeated follow-ups
For the receiver, Meeting Monkey turns the messages received during meetings into a prioritised catch-up list. When the meeting ends, the user can:
See urgent messages separately from messages that can wait Quickly understand who contacted them and why Generate an AI-powered summary of what they missed Focus on the most important next action instead of working through notifications chronologically
The MVP creates a calmer, more intentional handoff between focused meeting time and asynchronous communication.
How we built it
Mostly vibe-coded the application to see how well we could build this application.
Challenges we ran into
We couldn't properly understand how to get our app ready for organizations but that's our ultimate goal. For now we tried to do a basic AI summary of what needs to be done next. We still couldn't figure out how we can get other users (and organizational users) to nicely configure their own claude / open ai api keys for our app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were very happy to create a working slack application MVP that actually met our needs.
What we learned
We got stuck with slack MCP options not available until later in the competition and built something that wasn't super duper AI without using our own tokens extensively.
What's next for Meeting Monkey?
The next step is to evolve Meeting Monkey from a prioritisation assistant into an action-oriented Slack agent.
We plan to let users respond and take action directly from their prioritised message list—for example, replying to a message, clearing completed items, or scheduling follow-ups without switching between conversations.
We also want to introduce deeper agent capabilities. Meeting Monkey could ask clarifying questions on behalf of a busy user, suggest the most appropriate next step, or schedule a follow-up meeting based on the urgency and context of a message.
Over time, Meeting Monkey could become a proactive communication assistant that understands availability, urgency and intent—helping teams move work forward without creating more interruptions.
