Inspiration

Millions get scam calls each day. Most of the time, they're in the form of missed calls. Its gotten to the point where people just assume that any unsaved missed call is a scammer. We are here to break that assumption, and let people find out if the number is actually a scam call or not.

What it does

ScammerJammer is a website that allows people to report and search up phone numbers to see if they're scam calls or not. Using Firebase, it compares it to a list of known scam callers and also allows users to add any comments about the selected number should they wish.

How we built it

The front end is written in JS, HTML, and CSS and the back-end is purely supported with firebase.

Challenges we ran into

There were some design hurdles that were ran into as not all scenarios and edge cases were considered thus requiring numerous redesigns and rewrites of existing code and scripts as well as redesigning entire webpages to support new or remove features that were deemed too difficult or redundant.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to successfully integrate firebase and use it as a database to store our data and to compare numbers to those already in the database.

What we learned

As this is our first hackathon, we learned a lot about the design process as well as gaining a new insight into the software development lifecycle and developing web applications in HTML, CSS, and JS.

What's next for ScammerJammer

Currently, we plan on integrating more features including the ability to check a call live as soon it comes in on a user's device. Also including enhanced security like SMS verification.
