Inspiration

The inspiration behind PlateSaver comes from the desire to address two critical issues: food waste and food insecurity. We were motivated to create a platform that connects food establishments with consumers, allowing them to sell surplus food at reduced prices and donate to charities. By tackling these challenges, we aim to promote sustainability, affordability, and community support.

What it does

PlateSaver serves as an online marketplace where food establishments can list their surplus food inventory at discounted prices. Consumers can browse and purchase these food items directly from the platform, enjoying quality food at affordable rates. Additionally, PlateSaver encourages participating establishments to allocate a portion of their surplus for donations to local charities and food shelters, helping to alleviate food insecurity in communities.

How we built it

PlateSaver was built using modern web development technologies and frameworks. We utilized a combination of frontend tools such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create an intuitive and user-friendly interface. The backend infrastructure was developed using a robust framework, allowing secure and efficient data management.

Challenges we ran into

Bugs and technical issues: Like any software development project, we faced unexpected bugs and technical issues that required thorough debugging and troubleshooting. These challenges ranged from resolving compatibility issues across different browsers to fixing issues related to data synchronization and validation.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Throughout the development of our PlateSaver project for this Hackathon, we achieved several accomplishments that we are proud of. These include:

Completion of our first Hackathon project: Participating in a Hackathon is an exciting and challenging experience. We are proud that we successfully completed our first Hackathon project within the given timeframe. It required effective teamwork, time management, and dedication to bring our ideas to life.

Functional implementation of planned features: We are proud to have implemented and integrated the key features we planned for PlateSaver. This includes the ability to connect food establishments with consumers, offering food at reduced prices, and providing options for charitable donations. We successfully created a platform that facilitates the efficient and seamless exchange of food resources.

User-friendly interface: Developing a user-friendly interface was a priority for us. We are proud to have designed and implemented an intuitive and visually appealing website. Our interface allows users to easily navigate through the different sections, manage their inventory, and make transactions with minimal effort.
