Inspiration

We are not originally from Rochester and struggled to find the resources we needed when we initially arrived. Due to this, we wanted to make a website that provided all these resources to new residents so they don't have to spend hours and hours looking for it.

What it does

The website contains information on various locations and services available in Rochester. These locations and services are divided into categories by food locations, transportations services, and other locations and services necessary to new residents. Thus, any residents-especially new ones-have greater access to the resources their city has.

How we built it

We divided our idea of a website into the three main categories we believed we needed: food, transportation, and new resident needs. Then, we split creating a function page of each of the three categories between three of the teammates and the last teammate focused on refining our design on Figma. As we coded, we debugged together as needed and joined in the end to compare, refine, and finalize the website.

Challenges we ran into

At first, we were unable to find a problem to create a solution for due to ineffective communication. We also had a few issues programming the website because we lacked knowledge in a few areas we needed.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of finishing the website, that the website looked much better than any of our initial designs, and the many skills we made use of both while coding and designing with Figma. Overall, we are proud that we were able to use our various experiences and understanding to create our website.

What we learned

We learned how to better work in a team, time management, HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap.

What's next for DirectoROC

We plan to add an interactive map in the home page that will use the user's location to show them locations and services near to them. Also, we aim to style the website more to ensure it looks more pleasing to the user.
