🕵️ WhisperChase.ai – Let Your Voice Lead the Chase

🔮 Inspiration

Three founders. Three totally different worlds.
Shirin started in toys and children’s entertainment—Barbie and Bratz!—and evolved into an award winning innovative edtech/social impact and interactive media/gaming entrepreneur. Barbara is an award winning full-stack tech wizard and also a female founder blazing paths in innovation. And Scott, with roots in USC's interactive media program, forged an Emmy-winning career pioneering new forms of play, from Disney Imagineering to Niantic to artistic installations.Scott is a seasoned game designer who crafts playful, immersive experiences.
With only bits of free time, we came together during this hackathon to build something that sparks joy. Despite our humble beginnings, we’re all now multi-hyphenate creators—and Whisper Chase is our love letter to voice, play, and problem-solving. We were inspired by the idea of mixing the joy of childhood imagination with emerging voice tech. What if 20 Questions had a secret lair, a talking cat, and a team of quirky, over-the-top detectives solving silly mysteries by whispering into magical devices? And that’s how WhisperChase.ai was born!

🗣️ What it does

WhisperChase.ai is an AI-powered, voice-activated detective game built for curious minds and giggling players. Think of it as 20 Questions meets WhisperChase.ai* is an AI-powered, voice-activated detective game built for curious minds and giggling players.

Players:

  • Speak into the mic using whispers or silly voices to play the game.
  • Solve who/what/where the secret is by asking clever questions and getting increasingly weird (and helpful) responses. -Version 2.0 Interact with AI characters like Miss Whisperella, Detective Squeaks, and Agent Giggles—each with their own hilarious clues and personalities.
  • In Version 2.0 Explore animated environments full of hidden reactions, sparkling speech bubbles, and talking objects.

It’s fun. It’s unpredictable. It makes voice tech feel magical.

🛠️ How we built it

  • Frontend: Built entirely on Bolt.new, allowing fast iteration, bright visuals, and responsive UI design.
  • Voice Recognition: Used the Web Speech API for browser-based voice input, optimized for whispers and pitch changes.
  • Generative AI: GPT-4 powered the sassy, ever-evolving dialogue of our detective characters.
  • Version 2 will include Character Art & FX: Created whimsical detective designs via Figma and Midjourney; added expressive animations and ambient sound loops with ElevenLabs and Adobe tools.
  • Game Logic: Structured a playful, nonlinear Q&A loop using conditional logic and AI prompt chaining.

⚠️ Challenges we ran into

  • Getting whispers to register: Teaching the system to distinguish a whisper from background noise took finesse.
  • Pacing: Balancing the speed of response and maintaining a “mystery” feel without losing player attention was tricky.
  • V2 Making AI characters *funny*: It was a creative challenge to inject humor and identity into each AI personality using prompt tuning.

🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Built a functional, playable voice-driven mystery game in under 48 hours.
  • Brought to life an original character universe that kids and adults actually laughed with.
  • Combined generative AI, voice tech, and storytelling into something truly engaging.
  • Created a demo with real replay value—and got people asking for more cases.

📚 What we learned

  • Whimsy can be a powerful UX strategy—when combined with good voice design, people love engaging playfully with AI.
  • Bolt.new gave us an incredible playground to prototype quickly and creatively.
  • Storytelling still reigns: the characters and world made this project shine more than just the tech.

🚀 What's next for WhisperChase.ai?

  • Adding "Detective Creator Mode" so players can invent their own mysteries and characters using AI.
  • Building a case library with branching endings based on your voice-driven choices.
  • Integrating educational objectives for classrooms—like vocabulary, inference, and SEL (social-emotional learning) through gameplay.
  • Translating the entire experience to support multilingual whispering detectives! -Additional playful games such as the detectives telling your fortune with a series of clues you give them.

WhisperChase.ai is more than a game—it’s an invitation to giggle, solve, and speak your way into a mystery.
