Inspiration
We were inspired by other games like Poly Bridge to create a game that will help young students learn the general shapes of different graphs.
What it does
Our game uses puzzle-solving to make learning fun. Each level begins with a guinea pig trying to traverse a gap to the other side of the room. With the player's inputted equations and limits, the guinea pig's tunnel is created allowing it to successfully reach the end goal.
How we built it
Within the span of two days, we utilized Godot, a free game development software, Visual Studio Code, Procreate, and Pixilart, a free sprite editing website, to develop Graphing Guinea. With Kevin Liu and Jared Lee as the main software developers and Claire Chen and Khayniyah Culpepper as the main art and animation creatives, the team worked together to create Graphing Guinea.
Challenges we ran into
For the majority of the team, this is our first time developing a software solution in such a short amount of time. Especially as our first-ever Hackathon. As a group, we had to learn to manage our time and divide the solution amongst ourselves to get the job done. Additionally, we had to learn a whole new programming language in software we were unfamiliar with. Although these two major challenges were daunting, we overcame them together.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- A partially function game
- Animated sprites
- Working as a team
What we learned
We learned how to use GitHub/Git, Godot, and use Godot's programming language.
What's next for Graphing Guinea
We are planning on implementing more levels.
Built With
- godot
- pixilart
- procreate
- visual-studio-code
