Inspiration
The number of people with diabetes has been increasing worldwide. According to the report of WHO, in 2014 there are 422 million people living with diabetes globally. Among them, 90% of patients have Diabetes type II. If diabetes was a country, it would be the world's 3rd largest. In the USA, Diabetes is the primary reason for ⅓ of physicians visit and nearly 40% of outpatient hospitals visits. Diabetes is a major cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attacks, stroke and lower limb amputation.WHO projects that diabetes will be the seventh leading cause of death in 2030.
What it does
- Screen the prediabetic and early diabetic patient
- Use voice-activated technology to assist user interacting with the app
- Draw data automatically from tens of other apps
- Analyze users' data to identify which hidden factors are most likely to be influencing his/her sugar level or symptoms
- Personalized glucose forecasting
- Provide individualized treatment suggestion
- Push notification to keep patients on track
- Patients could share their data effortlessly with doctors and loved ones
How I built it
- On top of Quantimodo platform. Quantimodo is a general platform for Chronic Diseases. In order to tailor it fits Diabetic patient needs, we need to make a lot of modifications.
- Talk with patients and bring their opinions into the design.
- Built with patience and believe--yes, we can do it.
Challenges I ran into
Owing to the complicity of the disease, we need to take as many influential factors as possible into the building process. We have to pay a lot of attention that how could we let user sticks to the healthy lifestyle on top of all other issues. We want to let users know that we are not coaching them but assisting them.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We 've got many precious feedbacks from both patients and healthcare professionals.
What I learned
We learned a lot. Diabetes is a serious disease which needs multi-professional team collaborates together. Fortunately, we have had several good opportunities to discuss those Unmet needs with the clinician, dentist, physiotherapist, biochemist, nutritionist, neurologist, pharmacist, and psychiatrist as well as the other support professionals.
What's next for G6
- Integrate AMZ Alexa function into the app to bring a better user experience.
- Collaborate with the top-level research organizations, implement those unmet needs (metabolic control and complications). Start the clinical trials in Europe and China.
