TaxTrek

Inspiration

I was inspired to create TaxTrek because I noticed how many kids struggle with understanding taxes and feel overwhelmed by financial concepts.

What it does

TaxTrek is a web app that teaches kids about taxes through a simulation game where they make financial decisions and see the consequences. Players go through 20 decision scenarios, learn about tax brackets and deductions, and complete a tax filing process that shows exactly how their choices affect their taxes.

How we built it

I built TaxTrek using Next.js with TypeScript and TailwindCSS for a modern, responsive interface. The game uses Zustand for state management and includes interactive decision scenarios.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was creating the scenarios as it took a long time.

What's next for TaxTrek

I plan to add freelancer and small business career paths, implement multiplayer features for competitive learning, and add AI-powered personalized advice. I also want to include more advanced scenarios like investment taxes and retirement planning to make it a comprehensive financial education tool.
