Inspiration

We were recently appalled by one of vshacks 2022's winners, Tax Evasion Simulator. As CRA enjoyers, we offer our rebuttal. Taxes are integral for the proper functioning of society, and shall not be dodged. Therefore, we choose to educate the masses on how to correctly file a return. This is relatable for the kids by means of it being a video game. poggers.

What it does

An action-packed ed-tech platformer that shows interesting facts and jokes to inspire individuals to file their TAX RETURNS.

How we built it

We built it using the 5 stages of grief (and pygame).

We initially began with StudyBuddy, an app designed to help students schedule with AI. However, due to our questionable Flask and front-end web dev skills, we decided to pursue software for social good! This is clearly more important, as we would like to reiterate the importance of taxes for SOCIETY.

Challenges we ran into

Pygame is barebones, at best. Pygame lacks modern game engine tools - in fact, we can barely call it a GAME ENGINE. It is very low level, for such a high-level language. Plus, as we pivoted last minute, we had limited time. Plus one of our members couldn't bring her laptop to prom.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Music, that was composed by us. Our animation for the main character, and our adorable pixel art. The smooth camera was another plus.

What we learned

Pick a good idea at the start. Roll with the punches. Do. Your. Taxes. TAXES ARE NO JOKE.

What's next for TaxBuddy

Adding in moving enemies that are not static. And a boss battle.
