Inspiration

We were inspired by all of the open data initiatives that Philadelphia has begun and that we were brought together today to explore next generation tools that can aide journalists and government alike in understanding the relationship between revenues (taxes) and services (budgets).

How it works

We prototyped a web site that enables someone to look up an address and see the property taxes paid versus the services received.

Challenges I ran into

We ran into the difficulty in locating data that sits in different departments. Also, some of the data was in PDF format. The most challenging item was narrowing down the scope of location and data to something that was useable to the community and to journalists.
