Inspiration:
The idea for Tattletale came from a group of students who were struggling to stay on top of their attendance and were looking for a way to hold themselves accountable. They realized that having a system that would automatically notify their parents if they missed a class would provide the necessary motivation to attend regularly.
What it does:
Tattletale is a location-based attendance tracking app that uses the Google Maps API to determine if a student is in class or not. If a student misses a class, the app sends an automatic message to their parents using Twilio, letting them know that their child missed the lecture. The app also has a dashboard that shows students their attendance history using Chart.js, including how many classes they attended and missed.
How we built it:
We built Tattletale using React Ionic for the front-end, Google Maps API for location-based tracking, Xcode for iOS app development, Twilio for automated messaging, and Chart.js for data visualization. Developing the app using React Ionic was challenging since our team had little experience with it.
Challenges we ran into:
Our team faced several challenges while developing Tattletale. The first challenge was learning how to use React Ionic since none of us had worked with it before. We also had to ensure the accuracy of the GPS tracking system and make sure that the automated messaging system was reliable and able to handle a large number of messages.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:
We are proud of creating an app that helps students stay accountable for their attendance and encourages them to attend their classes regularly. We are also proud of the user-friendly interface we developed using React Ionic, which makes it easy for students to track their attendance and for parents to receive updates on their child's progress.
What we learned:
We learned a lot about developing apps using React Ionic, integrating with Google Maps API, using Xcode for iOS app development, and integrating with Twilio for automated messaging. We also learned about the importance of user testing and feedback in the app development process.
What's next for Tattletale:
In the future, we plan to expand the app's functionality to include features such as class reminders, integration with academic calendars, and integration with social media platforms. We also plan to improve the accuracy of the GPS tracking system and continue to enhance the user interface based on user feedback.
