Inspiration

As the team behind DietX, an AI-powered health and calorie tracking app, we were already deeply familiar with how people struggle with everyday food decisions. We noticed that deciding what to cook every day is surprisingly stressful after seeing influencer content online. People scroll endlessly, watch recipe videos, check their fridge, and still feel unsure.

We wanted to build an AI assistant that removes that friction and turns “What should I cook?” into a fast, confident decision.

What it does

TastYZ is an AI-powered food assistant that helps users:

  • Turn ingredients into instant recipe suggestions
  • Extract recipes from YouTube videos automatically
  • Analyze meals for smarter food choices
  • Discover meals tailored to their preferences

It simplifies cooking decisions in seconds.

How we built it

We built TastYZ using a modern mobile-first architecture with AI-driven parsing and recommendation systems:

  • Natural language processing to understand ingredients and meal inputs
  • AI-based video content extraction to generate structured recipes
  • A personalized recommendation engine based on user preferences
  • A clean, user-first mobile UI focused on simplicity

Our goal was to keep the experience fast, intuitive, and smart.

Challenges we ran into

  • Parsing inconsistent YouTube recipe formats into clean, structured data
  • Balancing health-focused suggestions without making the app feel restrictive
  • Designing a pantry system that stays simple but powerful
  • Avoiding overwhelming users with too many features on the home screen

We iterated heavily on UX to keep it minimal and clear.

Accomplishments that we’re proud of

  • Creating a working AI pipeline that converts videos into usable recipes
  • Designing a frictionless pantry-to-recipe flow
  • Building a flexible recommendation system that adapts to user taste
  • Achieving a clean, intuitive interface without feature overload

Most importantly, TastYZ feels natural — not like a complicated health app.

What we learned

  • Simplicity wins over feature density
  • Personalization matters more than perfect data
  • Users want control, not judgment
  • Pricing and positioning strongly affect perceived value

We also learned that food decisions are emotional, not just logical.

What’s next for TastYZ AI – Food Assistant

  • Smarter ingredient substitution suggestions
  • Auto-generated shopping lists
  • AI meal planning for the week
  • Multilingual recipe extraction
  • Deeper personalization through behavior learning

Our long-term vision is to make TastYZ a daily cooking companion powered by AI.
