Inspiration

As a content creator, I could have used the opportunity to take brand sponsorships during my travel. But I never thought of it. And when I did, I didn't have enough time to research all locations, my taste, which sponsors it would appeal to, and where I would find more content creators for me. And all of these would give a better opportunity to engage and improve my relationship with my community, without taking additional time from me.

What it does

Content creators waste thousands of dollars on travel that doesn't drive engagement or revenue. TasteJourney solves this by combining Qloo's cultural intelligence with advanced language models to predict which destinations will maximize a creator's ROI.

Here's how it works: You input your website URL. Our AI analyzes your content, audience, and brand to create a 'Cultural Taste Vector' -
think of it as your content DNA in mathematical form. We feed this into Qloo's taste API, which understands how cultural preferences connect across domains - from music to travel to lifestyle choices.

The result? Scientifically-backed destination recommendations with predicted engagement rates, specific brand partnership opportunities,
and local creator collaboration contacts. We're turning travel planning from guesswork into a data-driven business strategy.

The travel economy is worth almost 1 trillion, and the creator industry is worth 191 billion, but 78% of creators struggle with content monetization. TasteJourney bridges that gap by making
Every trip is a strategic investment in their business growth.

How we built it

TasteJourney is an AI-powered travel intelligence platform that helps content creators plan trips using data-driven recommendations. It combines Qloo’s cultural taste vectors with advanced language models to provide destination insights optimized for engagement, monetization, and brand collaborations. Technical Architecture The frontend is built with Next.js 14 and TypeScript, using custom React components styled with Tailwind CSS. State management is handled through Redux Toolkit with persistent chat state, and the interface includes real-time features like typing indicators. The backend runs on serverless Next.js API routes and integrates tools like Playwright for dynamic web scraping, Cheerio for data parsing, and SendGrid for automated email reporting. The AI layer is powered by OpenAI GPT-4 for reasoning and content analysis, Qloo’s Taste AI for cultural intelligence, SerpAPI for real-time enrichment, and APIs such as Numbeo, Amadeus, and the YouTube and Instagram APIs for cost and creator insights. Core Features TasteJourney can analyze creator websites, detect content themes, map audience demographics, and evaluate social media presence. It generates taste vectors from content themes, integrates them with Qloo’s intelligence, and refines them using user preferences. The recommendation engine scores destinations based on cultural affinity, engagement potential, brand fit, budget alignment, and collaboration opportunities. Business reporting tools provide ROI forecasts, brand partnership suggestions, local creator collaboration opportunities, and cost breakdowns. Additional API integrations deliver real-time travel costs, local safety and visa data, trending content analysis, and fact verification. Market and Value The platform is designed for travel creators, lifestyle influencers, brands seeking collaborations, and agencies within the creator economy. It addresses common pain points like poor travel ROI and inefficient planning, while aligning travel with business and content goals. Business Model TasteJourney uses a freemium model for basic recommendations, with premium plans for advanced analytics. Revenue streams include commissions from brand partnerships, enterprise licensing for agencies, and anonymized trend intelligence for industry stakeholders. Development Approach Built with an API-first, modular architecture, TasteJourney is developed using agile methods with iterative feedback from creators. It runs on serverless infrastructure with caching through Redis, flexible MongoDB storage, and CDN-backed content delivery for performance. Roadmap Upcoming milestones include better creator matching algorithms, a mobile app, multi-language support, video content analysis, and integrations with platforms like Patreon. Future plans also involve an analytics dashboard for agencies, API marketplace expansion, and localized cultural intelligence for global markets. Key Metrics The platform aims to deliver recommendation accuracy above 85%, sub-three-second analysis times, and a 99.9% API uptime. Business targets include onboarding over 10,000 creators in the first year, generating $1M+ in creator revenue, and facilitating 500 verified brand partnerships. TasteJourney combines cultural data, AI, and practical business intelligence to turn travel planning into a more strategic, informed process for digital creators. Built With:

Challenges we ran into

Time constraints: We couldn't put all the features in the inspiration. Otherwise, we could have made a clever reference to the Johnsons' Family Vacation.

API Integration:

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The prototype works and carries the idea. We also have a clear vision about the next steps to bring the promise of the app to life, which involve further AI orchestration and API integrations.

What we learned

Integrate the APIs earlier in the production process. Leaving sufficient time for testing the product was a good idea. During a time crunch, remove features that extend the journey and focus on the first epic.

What's next for TasteJourney

UI/UX Review. Brand recommendation. Local restaurant and hotel recommendations. Booking integration with a global booking agency. AI Hallucination audit and Risk management.
