Inspiration
We wanted to reimagine recommendation systems by combining cross-domain cultural intelligence (Qloo) with the creative power of LLMs. Most apps only tell you what’s trending now — we wanted to let anyone “time travel” their taste and see what they’d love in any decade, for any domain: music, movies, food, fashion, and travel.
What it does
TASTE TIME-WARP transforms your favorite modern artists, brands, places, and more into authentic recommendations from any year between 1900 and 2025. You pick your favorites; the app instantly shows what you’d love in another era, plus a mini essay explaining the cultural Zeitgeist for your choices and year. It’s like a personalized time machine for taste — perfect for creative inspiration, education, or pure nostalgia.
How we built it
Frontend: React + Tailwind + Framer Motion for a sleek, animated UI.
Backend: Supabase Edge Functions for all API and database logic.
Qloo API: Used for deep, cross-domain cultural entity search and “affinity” recommendations per year.
OpenAI (LLM): Generates contextual, era-specific essays for each result.
Supabase Database: Stores “warps” so users can revisit/share their cultural explorations.
Bonus: Responsive design, onboarding, and production-grade code throughout.
Challenges we ran into
Qloo API Learning Curve: Understanding domains, entity IDs, and cross-type recommendations took trial and error.
Data Completeness: Some niche entities or years don’t return results; we built robust fallback logic and error handling.
UX: Designing an interface that feels fun, premium, and not overwhelming with options or data.
Edge Function Constraints: Working with Supabase Edge runtime (Deno) and OpenAI rate limits.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Flawless Qloo+LLM integration — cross-domain recommendations, instant feedback, and dynamic essays.
Original UX: The “taste time machine” concept is fun, accessible, and works for multiple industries.
Production quality: The UI/UX and backend are fully responsive, polished, and ready to demo.
Adaptability: Real-world use cases for education, streaming, marketing, and creative writing.
What's next for TASTE TIME-WARP
User accounts & history: Let users save, revisit, and share their “warps.”
More domains: Add books, games, events, and other cultural categories.
Deeper essays: Let users choose style (“academic,” “fun,” “influencer”) for the cultural context.
B2B widgets: Package as a plug-and-play module for streaming platforms, museums, and brands.
Mobile version: Bring the time machine to mobile-first experiences.
