Inspiration
I wanted to create a fun way for people to discover new music, movies, food, and places based on what they already love. Our interests can connect us to different cultures, cities, and time periods. That inspired me to build Taste Time Machine Agent.
What it does
Taste Time Machine Agent helps users explore their tastes across different categories. Users can enter their favorite artists, movies, foods, and places to discover related recommendations and get ideas for a personalized weekend plan.
How we built it
I built the application using React, TypeScript, and Vite, with Bolt helping me develop and refine the interface. I integrated the Qloo Hackathon API through a Supabase Edge Function to keep the API key on the server side and retrieve recommendations.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge was connecting the frontend to the recommendation API while keeping the API key secure. I also worked on handling API responses, reducing duplicate recommendations, and making the results clear and easy to explore.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of turning an idea into a working, published web application. I connected the project to Qloo, built an interface for exploring recommendations, and deployed a demo that people can try.
What we learned
This project helped me learn more about API integration, server-side functions, environment secrets, frontend development, and deploying a web application from idea to demo.
What's next for Taste Time Machine Agent
Next, I want to improve personalization, explore more connections between cultures and time periods, and make the weekend plans even more useful and tailored to each user's interests.
