TaskTamer Campus

Inspiration

College life involves balancing assignments, deadlines, classes, and attendance, often across different schedules and routines. Keeping track of everything can become unnecessarily complicated. We wanted to build a simple, student-focused web application that brings essential academic organization tools together in one place.

What It Does

TaskTamer Campus is a web-based student productivity application designed to help students organize their academic responsibilities more effectively.

Its features include:

  • Task Management: Organize academic tasks and keep track of pending responsibilities.
  • Attendance Calculator: Add subjects, record classes attended and held, calculate attendance percentages, and check whether attendance targets are being met.
  • Academic Organization: Keep important student productivity tools accessible through a single interface.

How We Built It

We built TaskTamer Campus using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with a modular structure that separates core logic, user interface components, and shared application contracts.

For the attendance calculator, we organized subject-related operations and attendance calculations into separate JavaScript modules. The interface displays attendance information and target status, making the results easier to understand.

We also used Git and GitHub to manage version control, develop the feature on a separate branch, review changes through a pull request, and integrate the completed work into the main branch before deployment.

Challenges We Faced

One of the main challenges was integrating the attendance calculator into the existing application without disrupting its other features. We needed to keep the code organized, ensure calculations were accurate, and make sure the interface worked correctly with the underlying data.

We tested different attendance scenarios, including cases where attendance was above or below the required target. We also checked that subject data persisted after refreshing the page and that the feature worked without browser console errors.

What We Learned

Building TaskTamer Campus helped us understand how separate frontend components work together in a complete web application. We gained practical experience with modular JavaScript, separating application logic from UI code, testing edge cases, and managing changes through Git branches and GitHub pull requests.

Most importantly, we learned that building a feature is only part of the process. Integrating it safely, testing it properly, and deploying a working version are equally important.

What's Next

We plan to continue improving TaskTamer Campus by refining the user experience, expanding its academic organization capabilities, and making the application more useful for students managing busy college schedules.
