Inspiration
We created Tasks & Triumphs to make personal growth exciting and engaging. Our goal was to transform habit formation from a mundane task into an adventurous journey. By merging role-playing elements with a structured habit tracker, we aimed to inspire users to turn self-improvement into a fun and rewarding experience. Every step toward personal development becomes a victory, making the path to success exhilarating.
What It Does
Tasks & Triumphs allows users to create habits and track them over time. As users complete habits, they earn points across different statistics depending on the nature of the task. These points are tied to the seven recognized dimensions of development: physical, emotional, social, intellectual, spiritual, vocational, and financial.
Users can use these stats to face weekly challenges, like battling bosses, as they continue on their journey of self-improvement. The tracker doesn't just help organize life goals—it also actively rewards users for staying on track. The integrated point system provides both motivation and guidance, enhancing each user's personal development journey in a unique and engaging way.
How We Built It
We developed Tasks & Triumphs using Oracle APEX, which allowed us to rapidly build both the front-end interface and the back-end infrastructure. APEX provided a simple drag-and-drop interface for designing pages and organizing the user experience. We also used APEX to construct and manage the databases for storing habit information, user stats, and progress.
Challenges We Faced
Oracle APEX was a completely new platform for us, and the initial learning curve was steep. Navigating the interface and understanding its native components posed challenges, especially in customizing certain elements. Despite these hurdles, we found alternative methods to achieve our goals and progressively became proficient with the platform.
Accomplishments We're Proud Of
One of our greatest accomplishments was learning and mastering Oracle APEX in a short period of time. We also take pride in the clean and intuitive interface we built, along with the back-end systems that track habit completion and calculate points across the different dimensions of development. Integrating these mechanics into a functioning system is something we are particularly proud of.
What We Learned
Exploring the world of low-code development through Oracle APEX was an eye-opening experience. We learned how to build fully functional applications using APEX’s drag-and-drop components while still applying our coding and styling skills to customize the experience. This blend of low-code with traditional coding allowed us to gain new insights into rapid application development.
What's Next for Tasks & Triumphs
Our next steps involve adding more features to enhance the user experience. We plan to introduce leaderboards, create special events, interconnect users, and build a shop for in-game rewards. While we are proud of what we achieved during the HackMTY event, there are still many exciting ideas we plan to implement in the future.
