Inspiration
Our inspiration for TaskQuest stems from the common challenges faced by college students navigating shared living spaces. As college students living in shared spaces with roomates we were randomly assigned, we understand the complexities and occasional misunderstandings that can arise when multiple individuals share a living space. The need for a transparent and efficient way to communicate and manage tasks and expenses became evident. This inspired us to create TaskQuest, a mobile app designed to simplify shared living by addressing these challenges that we face on a daily basis in real life.
What it does
TaskQuest is an app that provides a holistic solution to the common problems faced in shared living arrangements. It acts as a central hub for roommates to streamline communication and organization. The app offers features like task management, which allows roommates to delegate responsibilities and keep track of who's responsible for what. Additionally, it includes an expense tracking system to help manage shared financial obligations. The shared calendar feature helps in scheduling quiet hours and keeping track of house occupancy, promoting better cohabitation. The in-app chat feature facilitates seamless communication among roommates, making it easy to plan and discuss shared living matters.
How we built it
Being first-time coders, developing TaskQuest was a steep learning curve. We used React Native for the app's login functionality, which allowed us to build a solid foundation. For the visual design and feature showcasing, we utilized Figma. This combination of tools allowed us to bridge the gap between design and development and create a user-friendly interface. Despite the challenges, our determination to bring TaskQuest to life fueled our progress and learning throughout the development process.
Challenges we ran into
The journey of building TaskQuest was marked by significant challenges, primarily due to our status as first-time coders. Learning a new programming language and delving into the intricacies of mobile app development was no small feat. We encountered technical hurdles, design complexities, and the need to continuously adapt and improve. These challenges, however, became opportunities for growth and learning.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
One of our proudest accomplishments with TaskQuest is our ability to learn a new programming language, React Native, from scratch. This newfound knowledge not only enabled us to create TaskQuest but also opened doors for future development projects. We're proud of the progress we've made as first-time coders and look forward to building upon this foundation in the future.
What we learned
Our experience with TaskQuest has been a valuable learning journey. We gained a deep understanding of the React Native framework, which is a valuable skill in the world of mobile app development. We also realized the importance of user-centered design, ensuring that the app meets the specific needs of our target audience. Overall, TaskQuest taught us about teamwork, problem-solving, and the importance of addressing real-world problems through technology.
What's next for TaskQuest
Looking ahead, our vision for TaskQuest involves continued coding and the addition of functionality to the remaining parts of the app, which we initially designed using Figma. We are excited about the potential for growth and further improvement, and we're committed to making shared living a seamless and enjoyable experience for users. Our dedication to enhancing the app's features and user experience remains a top priority.
