Inspiration

The informal labor market and "gig economy" drive the daily lives of millions of workers across Latin America and developing countries, yet these workers remain largely invisible to traditional, rigid freelancing platforms. Platforms like Upwork or Fiverr assume high digital literacy, complex onboarding, and desk-bound environments.

We were inspired by reality: the local plumber, the electrician, or the delivery worker who needs to find their next immediate job ("peguita") within minutes. We built this solution under a dual-brand strategy: TaskPulse for the global, English-speaking market, and Peguitapp for its active deployment in Chile and Latin America. Our goal was to build a bridge between high-end artificial intelligence and everyday informal labor, completely removing technological friction for users who face digital literacy barriers.

What it does

TaskPulse (Peguitapp) is an intelligent, real-time marketplace that connects independent local workers with immediate job opportunities in their area. Instead of forcing users to navigate dense interfaces, they can just type or speak a simple description of what they need.

The application utilizes the Gemini API to parse informal text and regional slang, extract metadata, and broadcast tasks instantly via a real-time matching system. To transform the chaotic informal market into a safe, sustainable, and empowering ecosystem, the platform integrates:

• The "Tío Emilio" AI Agent: A background security layer that analyzes user behavior, pricing anomalies, and communication patterns to flag potential fraud, scammers, or physical safety risks in real-time.
• Contextual AI Education (Our Secret Hook): To close the digital and financial literacy gap, Gemini dynamically injects micro-learning tips for both sides of the marketplace. Taskers receive automated micro-tips on how to price their services, manage daily cash flow, or improve digital communication. Clients receive quick, friendly guidance on safety protocols and how to scope tasks fairly.
• Coupon System: A practical feature that allows the generation of discount codes and promotional vouchers to drive user retention, incentivize new tasks, and help onboard local businesses into the ecosystem.

How we built it

We engineered a robust, modern, and reactive Full-Stack architecture designed for rapid scaling, low latency, and zero-friction onboarding:

• Frontend: Built with Nuxt 3 and Tailwind CSS, delivering a highly optimized, mobile-first Progressive Web App (PWA) experience tailored for workers on the go.
• Backend: Powered by Laravel 11, managing our core business logic, secure RESTful endpoints, and the security/education state machines.
• Real-Time Infrastructure: Integrated with Ably to trigger instant push notifications and live event matching. When a task is posted, nearby workers are alerted in sub-second times.
• Artificial Intelligence: Driven by the Gemini API. We utilize Gemini not just as a chatbot, but as a core infrastructure middleware for structural data extraction, regional slang translation, automated trust assessment, and just-in-time educational content generation.

The Math Behind Matching

To optimize how tasks are distributed without overloading the network, we evaluate a scoring function $S$ for each nearby worker. The score balances the worker's distance $d$, their average rating $R$, and the time elapsed since the task was posted $t$:

$$S = \alpha \cdot \frac{1}{d + 1} + \beta \cdot R + \gamma \cdot \log(t + 1)$$

Where $\alpha, \beta, \gamma$ are weights tuned dynamically to prioritize immediate local matching.

Challenges we ran into

• Contextual Parsing of Regional Slang: Tuning prompts to ensure Gemini could accurately interpret highly informal, localized Latin American slang (like Chilean jargon) and colloquial trade terms, converting them into structured database categories.
• Real-Time Orchestration at Scale: Ensuring that high-frequency state updates (bidding, accepting, and live tracking) synced flawlessly between Laravel 11's backend and Nuxt 3's frontend via Ably without causing race conditions.
• The Trust & Literacy Paradox: Building a system where users can safely interact without requiring complex, bureaucratic identity verification or high technical skills. We solved this by splitting the workload between our automated Gemini security agent ("Tío Emilio") and our just-in-time educational tip engine.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

• Bridging the Digital Divide: Successfully using cutting-edge Large Language Models not as a gimmick, but as a genuine accessibility and educational feature that empowers offline, non-technical workers.
• Sub-Second Reactivity & AI Fusion: Creating a seamless, event-driven flow where an informal text line is parsed by AI, audited for security, injected with educational tips, and distributed via Ably to nearby devices in just a matter of seconds.
• Clean Architecture: Designing a modular boilerplate where Laravel 11 and Nuxt 3 communicate smoothly, managing heavy LLM processing alongside real-time web socket behavior.

What we learned

• AI as an Accessibility & Growth Tool: We learned that LLMs are powerful translation layers between human informality and strict database schemas. More importantly, we discovered that micro-education delivered in the context of an action (like bidding on a task) has a 10x higher engagement rate than traditional tutorials.
• Proactive Security is Crucial: In informal markets, post-incident moderation is too late. Integrating an AI agent like "Tío Emilio" from day one changes the trust dynamics entirely, making the platform viable in complex urban environments.
• Infrastructure Synergy: Seamless integration between reactive frontend frameworks (Nuxt 3) and robust backends (Laravel 11 + Ably) is crucial when minutes mean money for the end-user.

What's next for TaskPulse (Peguitapp)

The hackathon is just our foundation. Our roadmap for turning TaskPulse/Peguitapp into a fully-fledged global ecosystem includes:

• Audio-to-Task Pipeline: Fully implementing direct voice-note processing so users can just say what they need out loud, allowing Gemini to handle the complete task creation and location layout automatically.
• Gamified Educational Paths: Expanding our contextual micro-tips into an AI-driven gamified academy where workers can unlock badges, platform reputation boosts, and lower transaction fees by completing short, interactive financial and technical literacy micro-courses.
• Escrow-Based Smart Milestones: Developing a micro-payment milestone system where funds are secured safely and released automatically via real-time confirmation once the task is marked as complete.
• Predictive Market Logistics: Using Gemini to analyze historical task data and forecast labor shortages in specific neighborhoods, automatically triggering promotional coupon campaigns to balance supply and demand before it happens.
