As a team of busy professionals , we intimately understand the stress and anxiety that comes with trying to keep up with it all.

We've all been there - staring at a looming deadline for a task that's outside of our skillset, or realizing that we've overcommitted and simply don't have enough hours in the day to get everything done. It's a feeling of helplessness and frustration, knowing that the quality of our work and our personal lives is suffering because we're spread too thin.

That's when we had our lightbulb moment. What if there was a platform that could hire or connect people with skilled professionals, ready to jump in and assist at a moment's notice? What if this platform could use the power of artificial intelligence to make the process of finding, hiring, coordination, overseeing the work, and quality checks seamless and efficient?

We were inspired by the growing gig economy and the potential for technology to revolutionize the way we work. A 2019 study by Upwork and Freelancers Union found that 57 million Americans freelanced, and that number is projected to surpass 90.1 million by 2028. The COVID-19 pandemic has only accelerated this trend, with more people turning to freelance work for flexibility and income stability.

At the same time, advancements in AI have opened up new possibilities for matching tasks with the right professionals. We saw an opportunity to leverage these trends and create a platform that not only solves a real problem but has the potential to change the way people work and live.

Thus, TaskNinja was born - a platform that doesn't just connect users with professionals but uses AI to find the perfect match, hire them, coordinate, oversee the work, and ensure quality checks for each task. A platform that doesn't just get things done but makes the process fun and rewarding for everyone involved. A platform that has the potential to revolutionize the way we approach work and daily life.

What it does

TaskNinja is more than just a task completion platform - it's an intelligent ecosystem that connects users with top-tier professionals, leveraging the power of AI to make the perfect match every time,hire them, coordinate, oversee the work, and ensure quality checks for each task. We take no commission from either the user or the professional, ensuring the best rates and quality of service.

Users can post any task they need help with, no matter how big or small, digital or physical. Some complex examples include:

  • A PhD student needs help proofreading their dissertation due next day.
  • A startup founder needs a detailed financial model created for investor presentations.
  • A busy executive needs a comprehensive market research report compiled and analyzed.
  • An elderly person needs assistance with configuring a sophisticated home automation system.
  • A software developer needs a code review and security audit before deploying a major update in 6 hours.
  • A mom needs urgent grocery shopping to be done

The possibilities are endless. TaskNinja can handle any task that can be completed within a few minutes to a few weeks (up to a maximum of one month).

Once a task is posted, our proprietary AI algorithm kicks into gear. It analyzes the task details, considering factors like required skills, estimated time to complete, and the user's preferences. It then scans our network of professionals, evaluating their skills, experience, availability, and performance on past tasks.

Within seconds, the AI selects the best match (or matches, for complex tasks that may require multiple professionals). The user is presented with the AI's recommendation, including the professional's profile, ratings, and proposed timeline and cost.

Here's where TaskNinja really shines. The user has two options:

  1. Full Service AI: The user can let TaskNinja's AI handle everything - hiring, coordination, overseeing the work, and quality checks. All the user has to do is approve the AI's suggested price, and the AI takes care of the rest. This is perfect for users who want a completely hands-off experience and trust the AI to get the job done right.

  2. AI Connect: For users who prefer a more hands-on approach, AI Connect allows them to directly negotiate terms with the professional, oversee the work, and ensure everything meets their standards. The AI still plays a crucial role here by understanding the task and connecting the user with the best possible professionals for the job.

Once the user selects their preferred approach, the magic really begins. Our platform enables seamless collaboration between the user and the professional (or professionals). Real-time communication, file sharing, and progress tracking are all built into the TaskNinja platform, ensuring everyone is always on the same page.

But TaskNinja isn't just about getting tasks done - it's about creating an engaging, rewarding experience for everyone involved. We've gamified the platform for our professionals (we call them "Ninjas"), using a system inspired by the ranks and abilities in the world of ninja.

Ninjas start at the Genin level and can work their way up to Chunin, Jonin, ANBU, and even Kage. As they complete tasks and receive positive ratings, they earn experience points and can level up. Each new level comes with new abilities and perks that make their work on the platform more efficient and rewarding.

For example:

  • Chunin level unlocks the "Substitution Jutsu," allowing a Ninja to swap a task with another Ninja once per day.
  • Jonin level unlocks the "Shadow Clone Jutsu," allowing a Ninja to take on two additional tasks for a limited time.
  • ANBU level unlocks the "Sharingan," giving a Ninja enhanced insight into a task's requirements, increasing efficiency.
  • Kage level unlocks the "Rinnegan," allowing a Ninja to see and accept high-value tasks before they are publicly posted.

This gamification system not only makes the experience more fun and engaging for our Ninjas, but it also incentivizes high-quality work. Ninjas are motivated to do their best on every task to level up and unlock new abilities.

In essence, TaskNinja is a platform that uses cutting-edge AI to connect users with the best possible professionals for their tasks while creating an engaging, rewarding experience for everyone involved. It's not just about getting things done - it's about making life easier and more enjoyable for both users and professionals.

How we built it

Building a platform as sophisticated as TaskNinja required a carefully considered tech stack and a lot of innovative problem-solving. We knew from the start that AI would be at the core of our platform, so we built our system around that.

For our front-end, we chose React. React's component-based architecture allowed us to build a highly interactive and responsive user interface. It also enabled us to create reusable UI components, which was crucial for a platform that would need to display a wide variety of task types and user profiles.

On the back-end, we went with Node.js and Express for our server. Node.js is known for its high performance and scalability, which is essential for a platform that needs to handle a high volume of real-time interactions. Express, a minimal and flexible Node.js web application framework, allowed us to set up our API routes and handle HTTP requests efficiently.

For our database, we chose MongoDB. As a NoSQL database, MongoDB gave us the flexibility to store and query unstructured data, which was important for a platform where tasks and user profiles can vary widely. MongoDB's document model also aligned well with the way we structured our data in the React front-end.

But the heart of TaskNinja is our AI system. We knew we needed a powerful language model to analyze tasks and match them with the right professionals. We chose Google Gemini-Pro, one of the most advanced language models available. Google Gemini-Pro's ability to understand context and generate human-like text was crucial for analyzing task descriptions and professional profiles.

We trained Google Gemini-Pro on a massive dataset of real-world tasks and professional profiles. This involved collecting data from various freelancing platforms, job boards, and our own user base. We preprocessed this data, cleaning it and structuring it in a way that would be optimal for training the model.

One of the biggest challenges we faced was ensuring that the model was making unbiased, accurate matches. To address this, we employed techniques like adversarial training and bias regularization. These techniques help the model learn to make decisions based on relevant features, while ignoring irrelevant features that could lead to biased outcomes.

We also fine-tuned Google Gemini-Pro for specific subtasks. For example, we trained separate models for analyzing task descriptions, evaluating professional profiles, and generating task recommendations. This allowed each model to specialize in its specific function, improving overall performance.

To integrate Google Gemini-Pro with our Node.js back-end, we used the Gemini API. This allowed us to send requests to the Google Gemini-Pro model and receive responses in real-time. We built a robust system for handling these API calls, including rate limiting and error handling to ensure the system remains stable even under high load.

Using Chainlink for AI Integration: To bridge the gap between our off-chain AI computations and on-chain smart contract execution, we integrated Chainlink Functions. This allows us to perform complex AI-driven analysis and statistical computations off-chain and then securely bring those results back on-chain to inform our smart contracts. For instance, when our AI matches a task with a professional, Chainlink ensures that this decision-making process is verifiable and tamper-proof, enhancing the trustworthiness of the TaskNinja platform

For our gamification system, we used a combination of MongoDB and Socket.IO. MongoDB stores each Ninja's current level, experience points, and unlocked abilities. Socket.IO allows for real-time updates, so when a Ninja levels up or unlocks a new ability, they are notified immediately.

Integrating all of these components was a significant challenge. We had to ensure smooth data flow between the React front-end, Node.js back-end, MongoDB database, and Google Gemini-Pro model. We used a RESTful API architecture to facilitate communication between the front-end and back-end. For real-time updates, like when a new task is posted or a Ninja levels up, we used Socket.IO to establish a persistent connection between the client and server.

Security was also a top priority. With users trusting us with sensitive information and financial transactions, we couldn't afford any vulnerabilities. We implemented industry-standard security practices like SSL/TLS encryption for data in transit, bcrypt for password hashing, and OAuth 2.0 for secure authentication and authorization.

Throughout the development process, we followed agile methodologies. We worked in sprints, with each sprint focused on delivering a specific set of features. This iterative approach allowed us to test and refine the platform as we built it, ensuring that each component was robust and scalable.

Challenges we ran into

Building TaskNinja presented several unique challenges, which we successfully navigated to create a robust and efficient platform.

  1. Data Collection and Cleaning: Collecting and cleaning the massive datasets required for training our AI models was a significant challenge. We had to ensure the data was comprehensive, accurate, and free of biases, which involved extensive preprocessing and validation efforts.

  2. Ensuring Unbiased AI: Training our AI to make unbiased matches was crucial. We employed techniques like adversarial training and bias regularization to help the model focus on relevant features and ignore those that could lead to biased outcomes.

  3. Real-time Interaction: Ensuring real-time interaction between users and professionals required a scalable and efficient backend. We used Node.js and Express to handle a high volume of real-time interactions seamlessly.

  4. Data Storage and Retrieval: With a NoSQL database like MongoDB, we needed to ensure efficient storage and retrieval of unstructured data. Structuring our data model to align with MongoDB's document model was a key part of this process.

  5. Training Specialized AI Models: Fine-tuning Google Gemini-Pro for specific subtasks like task analysis, profile evaluation, and recommendation generation was essential for improving overall performance. This involved creating separate models and training them on specialized datasets.

  6. User Engagement: Creating an engaging experience for users and professionals was important. We implemented a gamification system to motivate professionals (Ninjas) to perform high-quality work and level up by completing tasks successfully.

  7. Integrating Blockchain with AI: Connecting our sophisticated AI models with blockchain technology was a unique challenge. We needed a reliable way to perform off-chain AI computations and securely transmit the results to our smart contracts. By using Chainlink Functions, we overcame this challenge, enabling our smart contracts to interact with off-chain data and computations without compromising security or performance. Chainlink ensures that the AI-driven decision-making process is verifiable and tamper-proof, enhancing the overall trustworthiness of the TaskNinja platform.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite the challenges, we're incredibly proud of what we've accomplished with TaskNinja:

We've successfully developed an AI-powered matching system that can accurately connect users with the right professionals for their tasks. Our proprietary algorithm and the use of Google Gemini-Pro have allowed us to create a system that's both efficient and effective.

We've built a platform that enables seamless, real-time collaboration between users and professionals. With features like real-time communication, file sharing, and progress tracking, TaskNinja ensures that everyone is always on the same page.

3. Gamification System

Our gamification system is one of the unique features of TaskNinja. We've created a fun and engaging experience for our Ninjas, with a ranking system and abilities inspired by ninja ranks and abilities. This system not only makes the platform more enjoyable for our professionals but also incentivizes high-quality work.

4. Robust Security

What we learned

The journey of building TaskNinja has been an incredible learning experience for our entire team. We've gained technical skills, business insights, and personal growth that will stay with us long after this hackathon.

On the technical side, we've gained deep expertise in AI development and deployment. Working with Google Gemini-Pro gave us hands-on experience with one of the most advanced language models in the world. We learned how to fine-tune the model for specific tasks, how to integrate it into a larger software system, and how to deploy it at scale. These are skills that are in high demand as AI becomes increasingly integral to many industries.

We also learned a lot about system design and architecture. Building a platform like TaskNinja required us to think carefully about how to structure our system to be scalable, maintainable, and resilient. We learned about microservices architecture, event-driven systems, and how to design APIs that are both powerful and easy to use. These are lessons that we'll carry with us to future projects.

On the business side, we gained valuable insights into the gig economy and the freelancing market. We learned about the pain points and desires of both task posters and professionals, and how to design a platform that meets the needs of both sides of the marketplace. We also learned about the importance of user experience and engagement - our gamification system taught us that creating an engaging experience can have a direct impact on the success of the platform.

We also learned about the challenges of launching a startup. From pitching to investors to managing limited resources, we got a crash course in entrepreneurship. We learned how to prioritize features, how to make data-driven decisions, and how to pivot when things didn't go as planned. These are skills that will serve us well in our future endeavors, whether we continue with TaskNinja or move on to other projects.

Perhaps most importantly, we learned about the power of teamwork and collaboration. Building TaskNinja was a true team effort, with each member bringing their unique skills and perspectives to the table. We learned how to communicate effectively, how to give and receive feedback, and how to support each other through the ups and downs of the development process. We learned that we are stronger together than we are apart, and that's a lesson we'll carry with us for the rest of our lives.

Another key learning was the importance of adaptability and resilience. We faced numerous challenges and setbacks throughout the development process, from technical hurdles to resource constraints to unexpected market changes. We learned that the key to overcoming these challenges was to stay flexible, to be willing to pivot when necessary, and to maintain a positive attitude in the face of adversity. These are qualities that will serve us well not just in our professional lives, but in all aspects of our lives.

Finally, we learned about the potential for technology to make a real, positive impact on people's lives. As we saw the first users start to benefit from TaskNinja, we were reminded of why we started this project in the first place. This is perhaps the most valuable lesson of all, and it's one that will continue to inspire and motivate us as we move forward.

We'll also be iterating on the task posting , matching. overseeing,checking process based on user feedback, to make it even easier and more intuitive to get help when you need it.

We're also planning to roll out some of the premium features and value-added services that will form the basis of our revenue model. This includes features like expedited matching for urgent tasks, task insurance for high-value projects, and advanced screening for sensitive tasks. We believe these features will provide significant value to our users and help differentiate TaskNinja in the market.

In the medium term, we see significant potential for TaskNinja to expand beyond its current scope. We envision the platform evolving into a comprehensive solution for all kinds of short-term staffing needs, from event staff to temp workers to project-based consultants. By leveraging our AI matching capabilities and our growing pool of talented professionals, we believe we can disrupt the traditional staffing industry and provide a more efficient, effective solution for businesses of all sizes.

We also see opportunities to expand TaskNinja's geographic reach. While we're currently focused on the US and India market, we believe the platform has global potential. The need for on-demand, skilled assistance is universal, and our platform is designed to scale across borders. In the coming years, we plan to strategically expand into new markets, adapting the platform as needed to meet local needs and regulations.

In the longer term, our vision is for TaskNinja to become more than just a task completion platform - we want to build a global community of professionals and task posters, united by a shared commitment to getting things done and helping each other out. We envision a future where TaskNinja is the go-to platform not just for getting tasks done, but for building professional relationships, learning new skills, and discovering new opportunities.

To achieve this vision, we plan to invest heavily in community-building features and initiatives. This could include online forums and meetups for Ninjas to connect and share knowledge, learning resources and training programs to help Ninjas develop new skills, and even a TaskNinja conference where top performers can be recognized and celebrated.

We also see potential for TaskNinja to leverage its data and AI capabilities to provide valuable insights and services to businesses and professionals. With the wealth of data we collect on tasks, skills, and performance, we could offer analytics and benchmarking services to help businesses optimize their operations and staffing. We could also use our AI to provide personalized career guidance and job recommendations to our Ninjas, helping them grow and succeed on their own terms.

Ultimately, our vision is to build something more than just a gig platform - we want to build a movement. A movement of people who believe in the power of collaboration, the value of skills, and the importance of getting things done. A movement that empowers individuals to take control of their careers and their lives, and that helps businesses and communities thrive in the process.
