Inspiration
We wanted to make productivity fun, engaging, and rewarding. Many habit trackers and to-do apps feel like chores themselves, so we reimagined productivity as an arcade-inspired experience. By gamifying habit tracking and integrating a journaling feature, we aimed to create a tool that motivates users to stay consistent while reflecting on their progress.
What it does
Taskly transforms everyday productivity into a game. Users can log tasks, track their streaks, and earn rewards for consistency. The journaling feature allows users to reflect on their progress, celebrate achievements, and identify areas for improvement—all within a fun, interactive interface.
How we built it
- HTML, CSS, JavaScript (React) for an intuitive and visually engaging experience.
- Gamification Elements: Streak tracking, achievements, and a dynamic UI inspired by classic arcade aesthetics.
Challenges we ran into
- Designing a balance between fun and functionality—too much gamification could overshadow productivity, while too little might make it feel like any other to-do app.
- Implementing smooth animations and interactions while maintaining performance.
- Ensuring the journaling feature was seamless yet structured enough to encourage meaningful reflection.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Successfully blending gamification with journaling in a cohesive experience.
- Creating a visually unique and engaging interface that encourages habit-building.
- Overcoming technical hurdles to provide real-time updates and smooth animations.
What we learned
- The importance of user experience (UX) design in keeping users engaged.
- How to balance motivation mechanics—too many rewards can feel gimmicky, while too few might not incentivize users.
- How journaling complements productivity, allowing users to not only track tasks but also reflect on their mindset and progress.
