TaskFlow - Task Management Web Application

About the Project

TaskFlow is a web application designed to help users organize, manage, and track their daily tasks in a simple and efficient way. The idea behind this project came from the need for a better way to manage personal and academic tasks, especially for students who have many assignments, deadlines, and responsibilities.

During my internship at ArabSoft, I worked on developing a task management application and discovered how different technologies can be combined to create a complete web solution. This experience inspired me to continue improving the project and build a more structured application with a modern backend and frontend architecture.

Inspiration

The main motivation behind TaskFlow was to create a practical tool that solves a common problem: keeping track of tasks and priorities. Many students and professionals use different tools to organize their work, but I wanted to build my own solution while learning professional software development practices.

The goal was to create an application that is simple to use while including important features found in real-world applications, such as authentication, database management, and communication between frontend and backend.

How I Built the Project

TaskFlow was developed using a full-stack architecture:

Backend

The backend was built with Java and Spring Boot.

Main technologies:

  • Spring Boot for creating REST APIs
  • Spring Security for authentication and authorization
  • JWT (JSON Web Token) for secure user sessions
  • Spring Data JPA / Hibernate for database management
  • MySQL as the database

The backend manages:

  • User registration and login
  • User authentication
  • Task creation, updating, deletion, and retrieval
  • Relationship between users and their tasks

Frontend

The frontend was developed using Angular.

Technologies used:

  • Angular
  • TypeScript
  • HTML
  • CSS
  • PrimeNG UI components

The interface allows users to:

  • Create an account
  • Log in securely
  • View their personal tasks
  • Add, edit, update, and delete tasks
  • Manage their productivity through a clean interface

What I Learned

Through this project, I learned many important concepts in software development:

  • How to design and build a complete full-stack application
  • How REST APIs work and how frontend and backend communicate
  • Database modeling and relationships using JPA/Hibernate
  • User authentication using JWT
  • Structuring a professional Angular project
  • Debugging and solving problems during development
  • Using Git and GitHub for version control

Challenges Faced

One of the biggest challenges was connecting the Angular frontend with the Spring Boot backend. Understanding how requests, responses, authentication tokens, and CORS configuration work required a lot of testing and debugging.

Another challenge was implementing secure authentication. Managing passwords, JWT tokens, and user permissions helped me understand how security is handled in real applications.

I also faced challenges while designing the database structure and creating relationships between users and tasks. These problems improved my understanding of backend development and software architecture.

Future Improvements

In the future, I would like to add more features to TaskFlow, such as:

  • AI-based task prioritization
  • Task reminders and notifications
  • Team collaboration
  • Statistics and productivity dashboards
  • Mobile application version

Conclusion

TaskFlow was a valuable learning experience that allowed me to apply programming concepts in a real-world project. It helped me improve my skills in Java, Spring Boot, Angular, databases, and full-stack development while creating a useful application that can continue to evolve.
